バンフから歩いて行ける「唯一のWI5」
このルート最大の魅力は、圧倒的なアクセスの良さとそのロケーションです。バンフのダウンタウンからローカルバス（Roam Transit）の無料ラインなどを利用し、登山口に移動（5分）。そこからアプローチの雪道を歩いて取り付くことができます。
何より、「バンフの街から徒歩圏内でアプローチできるグレード5（WI5）の氷瀑」は、実質ここしかありません。
レンタカーの手配が難しい方や、バンフ滞在中に移動の手間をかけず本格的な難関ルートに挑戦したいクライマーにとって、条件が揃った名ルートです。
垂直の青氷が連なるダイナミックな世界
アプローチの雪道から顕著な沢を登ること１.５時間、目の前には岩壁に大きく架かる壮大な氷瀑（全長約150m〜170m）が姿を現します。白銀のロッキーの景色の中に美しく伸びる氷のラインは、下から見上げるだけでも圧倒されるスケール感です。
実際のクライミングでは、引き締まった硬い青氷にアックスとアイゼンを確実に効かせながら高度を上げていきます。
難所（クラックス）となる垂直〜垂直に近い立派な氷柱ピッチでは、しっかりとしたアックスのスイングと、足元に広がるシビアな高度感を存分に味わうことができます。

【Spray River Area】Spray River Falls (WI5): The Only Grade 5 Ice Climb Accessible on Foot from Banff

While the Rockies offer countless world-class frozen waterfalls, today we’re highlighting a true classic located right near town in the Spray River area: Spray River Falls (WI5).
The Only WI5 Route Accessible on Foot from Downtown Banff
What makes this route truly special is its unparalleled accessibility and setting. You can easily catch a free local bus (Roam Transit) from downtown Banff to the trailhead area, and then approach the route entirely on foot through the snow.
Most importantly, this is virtually the only WI5 route in the Banff area that you can approach on foot from town without needing a car.

A Dynamic 150m+ Frozen Waterfall
As you break out of the snowy approach trail, you are greeted by an awe-inspiring wall of ice stretching 150 to 170 meters (3–4 pitches) up the cliffside. Seeing this massive pillar of blue ice set against the snow-covered Rockies is a breathtaking sight in itself.
After warming up on the first pitch (~40m, WI4), you navigate the snow ramps to reach the main event.
The crux pitch features an impressive, near-vertical to vertical column towering over 100 meters above the lower tier. Placement by placement, as your picks and crampons bite into the solid blue ice, you’ll experience the ultimate thrill of steep ice climbing and exposure.
